Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of personalities, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing initiated the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, entering the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and trusted friend, desires revenge.
  • The adventurer is familiar with the region and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the team reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight participants to form the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
